An Engagement Strategy for the Launch of a New Permanent Gallery
When the Indiana State Museum challenged us to develop a new audience engagement strategy to promote the launch of its new permanent gallery, we knew we'd find inspiration i the space itself. Physically, the space and build-out of Gallery One is so unique: angled partitions, swooping arches, and hidden sneak-thrus. The walls are whimsically vibrant with engaging art and mind-blowing installations that inspire guests of all ages — it even features a musical mural! And best of all, they're using this amazingly colorful and imaginative space (think M.C. Escher in technicolor), to match up our one-of-a-kind collection of objects and artifacts with larger themes about life in the 21st century.
That’s where the fun begins

Here, our guests are drawn to particular objects. They connect with them. They become the one thing they go home and tell their friends and family about. It could be a journalist’s typewriter, or a presidential teacup, or even a basketball shoe that helped jumpstart a fashion subculture. The point is, that one object becomes more than just an object.

That’s where the storytelling begins

For this audience engagement campaign, we wanted to explore a bigger idea that could capture the spirit of Gallery One, while providing new handles for audiences to further engage with the Museum’s mission to serve as a catalyst for informal lifelong learning that connects the stories of real people, places and things.

Visually, we wanted to find ways to push the existing ad template, and explore ways to showcase/highlight our historic objects in a new way. We wanted to celebrate them as heroes, and introduce the power of an object to spark a conversation about something that’s so much more than just an object! This engagement campaign could play out across our social channels through videos and image assets that encourage guests to find (and share!) their ONE object and start connecting with powerful stories and life lessons.
