When our friends at the Athenaeum learned they’d be taking over the YMCA gym that had been operating out of the historic Athenaeum for years, they quickly scheduled a Zoom with the team at Lodge to talk through how we could re-introduce the historic Turner Gymnasium to today’s modern fitness enthusiasts.

A little background. The original Athenaeum Turner gymnast dates back to the late 19th century when the Athenaeum first opened its doors to Indianapolis. It was a key pillar in the organization’s mission to support their members with a sound mind in a sound body. Our challenge was to update the original Turner character for a 21^st century audience, without losing its historical roots and identity.
